چکیده

Introduction Numerous diseases can result in signs of spinal cord dysfunction (LeCouteur et al., 1995). Included in this group of diseases are those, such as intervertebral disc disease, that compress or distort the cord from an extradural location and those diseases that arise from within the spinal cord parenchyma itself. With the advent of newer spinal imaging modalities, the ability to ‘see’ inside the spinal cord has greatly improved. Consequently, diseases that occur within the spinal cord itself are being diagnosed with increasing frequency.

Syringomyelia in three small breed dogs secondary to Chiari-like malformation: clinical and diagnostic findings

Three small breed dogs were referred for the evaluation of neurologic deficits. Upon physical and neurologic examination, all dogs displayed hyperesthesia, pain, and neck stiffness. Magnetic resonance imaging was performed on the brain and spinal cord, and all three dogs presented Chiari- like malformations and syringomyelia. These dogs were treated with prednisolone and furosemide, and showed ...

Syringomyelia produced by intramedullary fluid injection in dogs.

Acute cord cavities have been produced by injection of saline or cerebrospinal fluid into the spinal cords of five beagle dogs. The lesions resemble syringomyelia as seen in the human. The lesions are described and the significance of the findings in supporting a hydrodynamic concept for communicating syringomyelia in the human are discussed.

Comparison of Diagnostic Values of Advanced Imaging Techniques and Electrodiagnostic Procedures in the Assessement of Cervical Spinal Cord Disorders in Dogs. a Preliminary Study

The retrospective study was designed to compare the diagnostic value of computed radiography, magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography, and electrodiagnostic procedures like brainstem evoked potentials and somatosensory evoked potentials in cervical spinal cord diseases in dogs; including wobbler syndrome, intervertebral disc disease, trauma, neoplasma, and syringomelia. Thirty-one dogs ...

Molecular Evidences of Ehrlichiosis as an Emerging Zoonotic Disease in Kerman City

Background and Aims: Ehrlichiosis is an emerging tick-borne zoonotic disease caused by the gramnegative coccid obligate intracellular bacteria of the family Anaplasmataceae. Since the only available evidence in regard to monocytic Ehrlichiosis in Iran is related to dogs, the present study was designed to use the polymerase chain reaction assay for confirming the presence of Ehrlichia spp. in...

Syringomyelia and Craniocervical Junction Abnormalities in Chihuahuas

BACKGROUND Chiari-like malformation (CM) and syringomyelia (SM) are widely reported in Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and Griffon Bruxellois dogs. Increasing evidence indicates that CM and SM also occur in other small and toy breed dogs, such as Chihuahuas. OBJECTIVES To describe the presence of SM and craniocervical junction (CCJ) abnormalities in Chihuahuas and to evaluate the possible asso...
